Wood Lodge Holidays Suffolk Norfolk
Our holiday park is a wonderful Norfolk get away. We have an abundance of wildife, including muntjac deer, owls, birds and water voles on the river. Back in 2013, we were given the Special Distinction Award for our Bird Hide, which we built from recycled leylandi trees felled on site. The hide was then officially opened by Professor David Bellamy along with the children from our local primary school & the Brownies club. The Alderwood site has been in the family since 1948 although the family history dates back in the village to the 1800’s! Our three luxury timber holiday lodges are set in 8 acres of tranquil woodland & grassland, beside the river “Little Ouse”. We are on the edge of the Brecks area in South Norfolk with its unique flora & fauna. The market towns of Diss and Thetford are 8 miles away. The lovely historic town of Bury St Edmunds with its cathedral and Abbey gardens and with many great shops is 16 miles away. Come to Norfolk and visit us soon for a unique log cabin holiday you will love.

On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and welcoming Leigh who showed us where to drive to reach our lodge. Turning a corner through the trees we saw a roe deer watching our arrival 😲 a fantastic glimpse of the nature we would find ourselves encompassed by. Eventually our lodge came into view, window boxes full of colour welcomed us. Leigh gave us a tour, everything we could possibly need, our priority was the safety of our two dogs a German Shepherd and a labrador but there were sturdy bolts on the decking gates. The accommodation was impeccable, we were honestly amazed at the level of consideration for guests ensuring they had everything they could possibly need. Once we'd unpacked we settled ourselves on the decking and were immediately relaxed, transfixed by the birds visiting the bird table whilst listening to the gentle swish of the trees with which we were surrounded. ❤ We couldn't see any of the other lodges, it felt like we were totally alone and at one with nature. Within 24 hours we'd booked to come back in May 2025, we're already counting down the days. The woodland walk is perfect with the Little Ouse meandering beside you as a place to give the dogs a walk with benches and tables to stop and really take in the nature surrounding you. Bromscott common and Knettishall nature reserve became favourite walking spots. The common is a short walk from the site, we walked through it on our way to the Post Office/village shop, a nice 3 mile round trip with off lead time for our furry family who lost 3 balls down various rabbit holes 😂 A short drive away is Knettishall nature reserve with a designated dog walk, we took a picnic and found lots of benches to stop. On route there you pass the Red Orange shop which is well stocked, we bought ice cream and some sunflower hearts for our new feathered friends and the deer who were almost in touching distance of our lodge. The ice cream was shared between the dogs and ourselves not the wildlife 😇 It was very emotional to leave such a tranquil place, we sat on the decking until the very last minute, my review really doesn't do it justice it is outstanding. Thank you Leigh 😍 we'll see you in May 2025 xx Get Outlook for Android richard hockley2024-07-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have just had a wonderful four night stay in Burnside Lodge at Alderwood Lodges and we had an amazing time. The lodge is very secluded and private with beautiful countryside views, with wildlife including deer, rabbits, garden birds and squirrels seen every day which was absolutely great! The lodge is very well equipped with everything you need for a perfect relaxing and recharging stay. From the wonderful welcome from Leigh to our last walk with our dog along the river through the stunning grounds, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our dog loved every minute and we loved how dog friendly the lodge was! We have booked our next stay before leaving and cannot wait to be back. 150% recommended! Fantastic lodges in an idyllic setting surrounded by trees, with a babbling brook and small deer occasionally appearing for a moment. We stayed in Burnside and it was very well presented with a well equipped kitchen, comfy sofas a Smart TV and good Wi-Fi. The beds are very comfortable and we slept really well. The lodge is situated near the bird watching hide originally opened by David Bellamy and it great place to see the wildlife, the walks along the river are also delightful. Our host, Leigh, was so welcoming and we had a great time staying in our little home from home. Deborah Mitford2024-02-15Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was looking for a break from our busy lives, what a perfect place to pick. It was so peaceful, lovely walks. Leigh made us so welcome, the lodge was spotless. She thinks of everything, it was like home from home with everything you needed. Always at the end of a phone if needed. Leigh and Pete thank you for the time we spent in one of your lovely lodges, hope to see you again. Simon Blake2023-11-26Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Super stay in an idyllic location. Lodge was smart, cosy and very well provisioned with everything we needed. Never had such a bumper delivery pack before. Kids loved the location and exploring the woods, fairy garden and bird hide that are on the doorstep. The lodges are very well spaced out from each other so you feel like you have your own space. The owner is welcoming and thoughtful and has thought of everything and takes great pride in ensuring the comfort and enjoyment of her guests stay. The lodge was immaculate, well equipped and comfortable. We relaxed whilst there and unwound whilst enjoying the company of deer, squirrels, rabbits and numerous bird species.
